This course is aimed at experienced sea kayakers who don’t necessarily want to take the BCU/UKCC five star training and assessment course, but would like the training part of the syllabus to add to their skill base.
The course is run over two days, normally at a weekend and will take place south of Oban around the Slate Isles of Fladda, Belnahua and the Grey Dogs. The waters in this area lend themselves perfectly to this course, with strong tides and good exposure to the prevailing south westerly wind with guaranteed tidal race in the Grey Dogs.
The two days will cover every aspect of the five star syllabus except for the over night camp, but there is the option to stay in a bothy.
The course is very informal and is not designed to put you under any pressure, but to give you a greater depth of knowledge on leadership, incident management, safety and rescue scenarios, navigation (including at night) and equipment.
Pre requisite. 3-4 star standard , but not necessarily assessed. A good level of paddle fitness.
You should have all your own equipment including a dry suit
Please contact us if you would like to discuss any aspect of this course, ie you would like to come on the course but you’re not sure what level you’re at.
