We are based near Oban on the West Coast of Scotland. Making the most of the wonderful surroundings we offer expeditions, demo days for NDK sea kayaks and paddle sizing days. We also sell the full range of NDK sea kayaks, Lendal Paddles and now Celtic paddles.
Julian (jules) Davey:
I’ve been sea kayaking for the best part of 25 years now and coaching and guiding for around 20. I cut my teeth under the watchful eye of one of the worlds most eminent sea paddlers, Nigel Foster. In 1994 Nigel assessed me for the then sea kayak advanced proficiency, now known as the 5* award. At that time I was living and paddling in North Wales both on the rivers and at sea. We had the best of both worlds in those days, if it rained we paddled the rivers but when the sun shone we’d paddle the coast of Anglesey.
Since then I’ve either been involved in or led sea kayaking expeditions to some of the most remotest parts of the world. In 2001 I led an expedition to Iceland in an attempt to circumnavigate the entire 1500 miles of coastline but time, bad weather and fatigue got the better of us.
I’ve also led expeditions to Norway, New Zealand, Australia and Ireland, but I’d have to admit that when the sun is shining theres no better place to paddle than the West Coast of Scotland. For me Scotlands west coast has it all, wilderness and wildlife, from sandy beaches to remote rocky islands, and that real sense of isolation. I’ve lived near Oban now for 12 years and paddled thousands of miles of Scotlands west coast but I still never tire of a simple day paddle out from Oban Bay to the neighbouring island of Kerrera, sometimes just to sit and watch seals or have lunch and then paddle back.
I now oversee all of the expeditions and courses for Sea Kayaking Scotland plus I run all of the demo days and the Lendal paddle sizing clinics.
As the Irish would say…to be sure, when you come on one of our expeditions or courses you’ll be in very safe and experienced hands.
